Hi. Just thinking about the ATC after many years and put 1701 in aGoogle search. Was a cadet from 1967 to 1976 ish and made CWO. left but came back as a CI in 1991 for a couple of years. Was under Archie Wallace and Hugh Thain as COs Great to see that 1701 still thriving. Had a great time in cadets. If anyone remembers me please get in touch.

Great to my old Sqn on the web. I was a Cadet from 1985-88. Which means I must know the CO. I joined the RAF in 1991 as a Cartographer. I'll try and pay a visit next time I'm in Johnstone.

Ex CWO 1965. Good to see that 1701 is still thriving. I trust that the rifle team is still as competitive as is was in the 1960s. It gave me a sport for life, 40 years on I am still an active target shooter.
I note Dick Mathieson's name as Sqn Treasurer. Was he an officer on the squadron in the early '60s?

I was one of Archie Wallace's "Gang of 4".
However, Archie's normally excellent recall of squadron history (which evidently includes a chapter on rascals) has let him down just a little - the 4th member was Alan ("Sid")Woods rather than Rab Weir.
Archie - I tried the email address against your message from September 2007 but it got bounced back. It would be great to catch up with you again.
Many of my best memories from my teenage years are associated with 1701 - It's great to see that the squadron has continued to do the same for many others.

Gralko a CWO, i never. The power must be going to his head (he always seemed the powerhungry type).
Sqn looks pretty good. Website is much improved from my days. Keep up the good work, 1701 are most certainly the best in the wing.

looking on the net,I was curious to see if 1701 had a web site. I'm ex flt/sgt who joined RAF in 1986 with ex cwo walter anderson. It's good to see archie wallace on this page. He was my 1st CO, followed by gordon catto & then ian murray. I'm now living in Harlow Essex & looking to get involved with local sqn. keep smiling peeps

I for a start think that Neil Finnie sould keep his opinions to himself, given that he left 2175 Squadron for no apparent reason becaue he works in morrisons says it all, 1701 clearly are the finest squadron in Renfrewshire. Secondly, Neil, it was yours truely who added the photo... lol

hi I'm in the air training corps and i think your site is good but it needs more pictures also I'd say your squadron does more activities than any other squadron. My squadron thrashed your team at the 7 aside 122 football competition. Hopefully i will see you around at camps.
I'll be watching you !!!

I thought I would drop a line since my old CO Archie Wallace uses the internet. Archie you must be retired by now! I had a great time in my few years at 1701 and now my oldest boy was a cadet at 1032(Yeovil). The important message is, it gave me the chance to travel and meet people and places, which is 10x more important than trying to learn about life in a small, but good Town. Keep the spirit flying.
