Annual Awards and Dinner 2004

The squadron held it's annual presentation night at the Bird in the Hand Hotel, Johnstone tonight. As well as the usual trophies being awarded, there was a special presentation given to Flight Lieutenant Alistair Bibby for his impending departure.

Alistair has been a member of the squadron for over 18 years, starting as a Civilian Instructor in 1986 and, after being commissioned as an officer in the RAFVR(T), rose to become the commanding officer in January 2001.

The presentation of a specially engraved crystal decanter and glasses was made by Flight Lieutenant David Tate RAF who is a former cadet of the squadron who has recently completed his fast jet training at RAF Valley. David was the guest of honour for the evening.

Other noteable guests of the evening were Flight Lieutenant Archie Wallace, ex-commanding officer of 1701, Squadron Leader Alan Gillespie RAFVR(T), commanding officer of 661 Volunteer Gliding School at RAF Kirknewton and ex-squadron member and Flying Officer Alan Dickie RAFVR(T), squadron officer with 2496 (Cumbernauld) Squadron and ex-squadron member.

Drill Trophy - Cdt. Douglas Gillespie
St. Fillans Trophy - Sgt. James Neilson
Walker Trophy - Cdt. Scott Gralko
Training Trophy - Cdt. Jac Balden

Congratulations also go to Scott Martin who was promoted to Flight Sergeant, and Cadet Liam Harper who was presented with the Mullen award for collecting the most money during the annual RAFA Wings Appeal.
