ICTC Success
Flight Sergeant Scott Gralko and Corporal Liam Harper both successfully completed the Instructor Cadet Training Cource (ICTC) held at Rosyth.
Scott was also rewarded for his performance by being the parade commander on the final day of the course, and by being presented with the Astra Cup for being the top student.
Here is the report by FS Gralko:
Twice a year Glasgow & W. Scotland Wing run Instructor Cadet Training Courses. These courses are for cadets approaching the age of 18 and newly appointed CIs. I have just returned from ICTC No. 7 held at HMS Caledonia in Rosyth.
The course began on the Friday night with the expected welcome, fire, security and intro briefs from Sqn Ldr Haley, Course Manager. We then had a lesson/refresher on the ATC and the RAF, primarily in Scotland & Northern Ireland. The next morning we really got into the course, only having the weekend to cram everything in ment the course had to run exactly to schedule. The Wing Staff Officers and specialist officers each presenting to us some information that would be required for us to know and would help us when we become instructor cadets or active CI's on our Squadrons. We were told all about Health & Safety and what it meant to us and our obligation as legal adults, leadership theory, how to give and prepare a briefing and/or presentation and also many other facts such as financial handling and dealing with cadet welfare problems. In amongst all that we had inteviews with either Sqn Ldr Sneider (WSO) or Sqn Ldr Haley (Course manager/WSO), these interviews were about our plans for the future and what we are already doing on our Squadrons. And on top of that we had drill sessions to attend in order to practice for the graduation parade on Sunday afternoon. With the arrival of the Wing WO, AWO Leonard, on Sunday, our drill was emaculate come lunchtime! I was chosen as the parade commander, a great honour given that the reviewing officer was Grp Cpt Urquhart! In spite of my nerves I pulled it off and all went smoothly. The Regional Commandant inspected the parade and was overwhelemed by our turn out. Then certificates were handed out to all of the graduates. Fortunatly everyone passed the final exam and was awared with their certificate. Next came the moment everyone had been waiting for, Top CI Student and Top Cadet Student. The top CI went to Paula Hastie, a former CWO and Andrews Sash winner from 2175 (Rolls-Royce) Sqn and the Astra Cup for Top Cadet Student on ICTC was awarded to ME!!! I felt immensly proud and gobsmacked as I did not expect it!
All in all the course was, in my opinion, a great weekend! I learned a lot, met new friends and gained new skills, not to mention had a great laugh!
